General Auctions

Whatever sales style you choose Trade Away offers a really simple solution. However if you like the idea of auctioning your stuff to the highest bidder...keep reading!
Only West Australian Trade Away members can list items.

Decided you have something to sell? Ok, decide how you would like to list it, then get it ready for sale. General Auctions are just that, you list an item, set a reserve, the highest bidder wins and everyone goes home a winner!

 General Auction
Once you have 'Signed In' click on the sell tab on the home page and follow the instructions to auction items, it is a simple process with directions at the top of each page. Basically an auction allows you to list an item set a reserve, it can then be viewed by other members who can place bids on it and the highest bid wins!

When entering the details of your item we suggest being as descriptive as possible about the item, to help buyers, and make sure your photos are great! Click here if you need any tips on loading and taking images .

The listing process also asks you to select your preferred payment options, (you can select more than one), and your preferred delivery option. You can choose to add additional images to your listing, and choose the length and ending time of your auction/sale. We recommend a good time to end your auction is in the evening; potentially more members can access their computers.

We offer promotional tools, which offer your item more exposure. Check out our Extras & Features. You need to have a minimum trading balance of $10.00 to list items.

 Bid Increments
The minimum bid increments for your item will be automatically displayed next to your auction; you can see from the list below where your item will be placed. Members can of course bid more than once, but remember these are the minimum bid requirements based one the current bid or price of your item:

                Up to $20                               $0.50
                Between $20 and $200            $1.00
                Between $200 and $1,000        $5.00
                Between $1,000 and $5,000     $10.00
                Between $5,000 and $25,000   $50.00
                Over $25,000                          $100.00

 Reserve Price
A reserve price is a price the seller selects when listing an item.  This is generally the minimum amount they wish to sell their item for. Other members cannot see what this price is. However, if this is met, a green flag will show next to the listing indicating the reserve has been met and that the item will be selling to the highest bidder. If the reserve price is not met the item does not sell, as this protects the seller from being forced into selling the item for less than they wish.

This gives sellers more control over the sale price of your item. However it is totally up to the individual, you can choose a Reserve Price as low as you want. We offer a reserve price on our all our auctions for FREE, so you have more control over the final price. If the reserve price you set is met, the item will sell to the highest bidder when the auction closes.

 Managing the Auction
You will be able to see how many people are looking at your items in the view counter, situated in the top right hand side of the listing page. Members will also possibly/probably ask questions regarding your auctions, please answer these within two days and factually. These arrive automatically in your member email address account.

If you’re a buyer, once the auction has started you can keep an eye on it in your 'My Account' section under 'My Bids' or you can select to watch it in 'My Watchlist', or just monitor the actual auction yourself. If bidders are outbid, we send an auction update advising them they have been outbid. Additionally, bidders will be informed at the end of an auction if they have won or lost the item they were after.

When bidding check to see how much the next bid increments are, these will be listed next to the current bid in the listing. Monitor the auction; decide what you are prepared to pay to win. Also, remember to ask the seller lots of questions if need be.

When the auction is over and there is hopefully a winning bid, both buyer and the seller will receive an automated email from Trade Away containing each others email addresses and contact details. We advise making quick contact to arrange both the payment and delivery of the item.

 Sold/Unsold
If you are the highest bidder at the close of the auction and the auction has met its reserve price, (the reserve price is the lowest price the seller is willing to sell their item for) then you are the winner! We will send both the seller and buyer emails, with each others contact details, to make contact and arrange payment and delivery.

Sellers/buyers need to ensure that their listings/bids comply with Trade Away Terms & Conditions  and that the item is not listed in our Things You Can't Sell  section.
