It’s really easy to list items on Trade Away, and although there seems to be a lot of information on this page, once you have done it a few times you will be a wiz at it, we’re sure!
Only Trade Away members can list items to sell. To be able to list items for more than $150.00 and BuyNow auctions, members must be Address Verified with Trade Away. Members must have a minimum account balance of $10.00 to list items. (We cover more about some of these selling rules at the bottom of this page.)
All items on Trade Away can be listed either through an Auction process or for a Fixed Price/Classified.
We believe the secret to successful sales is to
make your item stand out, write fantastic descriptions and show great photos!
Listing Your Item: For Auctions or Fixed Price, the same process applies:
Step 1.
Sign In. Click on the Sell tab and decide how you would like to list your item, Auction or Fixed Price? Then choose an appropriate category and sub-category that best suits your item. Try and find the best fit for your items, this makes it easier for buyers when they are searching for specific items.
Step 2.
Next enter your item Headline. This should be descriptive, clear and factual. Try to use relevant keywords that will assist potential buyers to find your item.
You can use up to 50 characters in your Headline, we suggest you make them count. Get noticed with appealing headlines:
Stunning IKEA Lounge Chair/Fire Red plus LOW RES!
Step 3.
Enter your start bid price; this is the price at which you wish to start the auction. Next enter your reserve price, this is the minimum price the seller is willing to sell the item for. You can of course choose to offer a low reserve to attract buyers. We suggest to let them know it's low! We allow reserves on all auctions for FREE. Only the seller knows the reserve price. Sellers can at their discretion, let bidders know the reserve price using the Q & A.
Listings will display a little Green Flag when the reserve is met. Once the reserve has been met the item will be selling to the highest bidder. Items listed with the same start price as reserve price will display a little Blue Flag. This means there is no reserve, and again the item will be selling to the highest bidder.
If you choose to list your item for a $1 and set a $1 Reserve, you can! Your item will feature in our $1 Reserve category for free. Then sit back and let the market decide what it’s prepared to pay!
If you are Address Verified you can choose to offer a BuyNow price for your auction, meaning buyers can pay the price offered by the seller to buy the item immediately. This purchase method automatically ends the auction process. To maintain the auction process on a BuyNow item, bidders need to bid above the reserve price. This will again then sell to the highest bidder.
If you’re listing a Fixed Price item there is only one slot for your price. Buyers may ask for this to be negotiated, the option is up to the seller.
Step 4.
Enter the full details about your item; please include as much detail as possible. If you’re not sure what to write, have a look at another seller’s description of a similar items before you list yours? You will get the hang of it in no time! If you’re planning on selling many of the same items, why not keep the description to make re-listing easier! (Please make sure you are not infringing on any copy right laws)
We have set out some headers which you may also find useful to use, such as: Manufacture, Colour, age. Also key in your Town/Suburb and Region in WA.
Step 5.
Select your preferred mode of delivery. You can only choose one and this will show in your listing. If you choose to have the buyer pay for delivery, state this clearly in your listing and also the associated cost. Alternatively you can re-negotiate delivery (with the buyer), once the item has been won and if you and the buyer agree. You never know they may live round the corner!
Step 6.
Select your payment options. You can select more than one payment method. These are displayed next to your listing. If possible, and suits both buyer and seller, why not complete the transaction face to face with cash on collection?
Step 7.
Take some great pictures of your item using a mobile phone or digital camera set on the lowest resolution setting. Photos must be saved in a JPG format and under 300MB. Scan your photo into your computer or upload it from your digital camera.
Click on Browse, find the best pictures to show your item and then click on ‘Upload Photo’. To upload additional images, repeat this process. We will do basic resizing for you, but if your photo needs resizing read our
Loading and Taking Images If you are displaying a Gallery Photo, load this image first.
If you have made a mistake or wish to have your photo’s displayed in a different order, click on the red delete symbol on your image and re-select. Once you have selected the images you wish to display in your listing, click next.
Step 8.
Choose any extras and features, such as; an auction/sale duration or specified end time. Add any promotional functions you want, such as a Feature on Home Page, Bold Headline or Gallery Photo etc. (These options are covered in more detail below.) Note: Potentially, Auctions that end early evening may get more bids than those closing during the night or during working hours.
Step 9.
Confirm your listing details. Go through what you have selected and check that you are happy with your listing. The fees associated with your listing will be detailed on this page and the balance will be displayed. If you’re not happy with anything, simply click the back button at the bottom of the page and make the changes you require.
Listings
We allow most categories in Trade Away to Auction items, except the following: Pets & Animals, Jobs, Flat/House/Share/Rent, Wanted, Lost Pets, Services, Garage Sales, Dogs and Cats, other Pets. These can only be listed as Fixed Price items. All categories can be offered at a Fixed Price.
A basic listing will appear in the category you selected only and the FREE image will only be displayed inside your listing.
Fixed Price ListingsA Fixed Price is basically a Classified ad, and means that the item is being offered for the price specified in the listing. These listings display the sale price of the item in the top right hand corner of the ad. The listing process is the same as above, the only difference is, there is no reserve price selected, just a buy now price. Fixed Price listings are also highlighted with the little shopping trolley icon, to make them easy for buyers to identify.
Buyers can ask questions about Fixed Price items, and also place feedback on Fixed Price trades.

Editing Your ListingsIf required, you can edit your listing. This includes editing the description and also the price options. This function is lost once the item has received a bid. You cannot add any features or extra images after you have loaded your item. Click here for more about
Editing Listings
To edit go to your ‘My Account’ click on ‘My Listings’, click on ‘Edit Listing’ and follow the prompts, it’s really easy.
About PricesThe reserve price is the lowest price that the seller will accept for the item. If the bidding doesn’t reach this price, the item will not be sold. The starting price is the lowest price the first bidder can bid at the start of the auction.
You can also choose to set your reserve price the same as the start price. Keen buyers will notice these as there is no hidden reserve. Your auction will show a 'little Blue Flag', meaning there is not a reserve and the item will be sold to the highest bidder. You can start your auctions at $1. These will feature in our $1 auction category. These are often where buyers go to look for great bargains. The market then decides what it will pay for your item!
A BuyNow price may be posted, (members will need to be Address Verified to list and to buy, ‘BuyNow’ auctions), meaning buyers have the option to buy this item immediately which cancels the Auction process.
Listing Duration
You choose how long your auctions and sales run on Trade Away. Auctions can last for 2 - 7, 14 and 30 days, commencing from the time when your listing is posted. Auctions that end in the evening may get more bidders towards the end than those closing during the night or during working hours.
Fixed Price items can be listed for 90, 30, 20, 14, 7, 5, days. Click here for more information on

Placing Feedback
Q&A
If a buyer asks a question about your item, you will receive an e-mail inviting you to answer. You can then go to ‘My Account’ and click on ‘My Listings’. Find the listing and click on ‘Answer Question’. The question and your answer will be displayed next to the listing. Alternatively if you are 'Signed In' when you receive the question email, click on the link to the item to take you straight to the Q & A field to post your answer.
If a potential buyer wishes to view an item and requests your contact details, this would be the place to exchange those. We understand bidders will sometimes need to see items before they bid/buy. We encourage this practice so that members can bid with confidence, especially on big ticket items. However this is the ONLY time when this is allowed.
Re-list your Items
After your Auction or Fixed Price sale has closed, you can easily re-list if you have another item of the same to sell or if your item is unsold. Simply go to ‘My Account’, then ‘My Unsold’, or ‘My Sold’ and select Re-list. This will automatically attach the description of your item and the images previously used, saving you heaps of time!
You may edit your listing and add more promotional features if you wish. A new listing will be created with a new listing number. You can re-list your item up to 30 days after the expiry date. Our Relist service is FREE.
My WatchlistIf you want to have quick access to listings that you are interested in, use this function. It is located at the top of each listing to the right hand side, look out for the little eyes icon, if you wish to keep track of the item.
By clicking on the watchlist icon, this automatically registers the listing in your 'My Account' page under 'My Watchlist'. This is great if you want to watch an item but not bid on it yet, by adding this to your Watchlist it is there for your convenience to view in the future. Your ‘Watchlist’ also records items you have made bids on.
