Trade Away Security

Making sure YOUR money is safe is a high priority for us. If we want you to keep coming back for more we had to make sure we had this one covered and then some!

We have made every effort to make this part of using Trade Away as transparent as possible. We don't handle your transaction money at all. This alone takes a lot of the worry and hassle out of online trading with Trade Away.

 Our Security

Trade Away operates in a different way to many Auction sites on the market. The main difference is that we don't handle your purchasing money at any stage. You can't buy items directly through the website. We believe that we don't need to get involved in this part of the transaction as this is between the buyer and the seller.

Trade Away is for the West Australian Market only so we hope most sales will occur between actual locals (geographically speaking). Yes, there will of course be sales that need forms of payment other than cash and collect, but these can easily be arranged directly between the members. We believe we've built a fantastic venue for you to do this in.

 Your Money

The only money we accept from our members is for the member's personal trading accounts which can be deposited in various ways. Please view our Credit Your Account page for more information.

All credit card payments made to Trade Away are processed using the Secured Sockets Layer protocol (SSL). SSL is a process that encrypts confidential information as it's sent over the internet.

DPS Payment Express is a leading provider of digital trust services, enabling businesses like Trade Away to provide secure environments for people to transact online.

Please read their information on safe buying online:

Deposits made using your PayPal account are also fully secured and encrypted as PayPal have their own SSL security certificate. Please read their information regarding this at:

 Safe Buying Tips

Many sellers will if allow items to be viewed during the auction, if this suits your situation, and the sellers, ask if you can see the item  before you bid or buy. You can't get better buying confidence when you know where the seller lives; you've met the person or visited the retail outlet!

Then you can see the item for yourself, decide what you're prepared to pay for it during the auction and bid with confidence..

Sellers are not permitted to trade outside the auction process. It's to their benefit not to, as the auction will sell to the highest bidder and some of those bidders will be unknown to the seller until the very last minute. In fact, often most of the bidding action on a listing will occur in the final minutes of the auction.

Always read feedback on the seller. Check whether they are Address Verified, as this offers even more assurance that they are who they say they are. Ask the seller lots of questions about the item and make sure you're crystal clear on what you're buying. Use our 'Questions and Answers' feature in the listing for this purpose. Read the item description carefully and take a good look at any available photos of the item. Don't be afraid to ask the seller about anything you're unsure of.

When you communicate with the seller using the 'Question and Answer' function, your name and contact details remain private. However the first ten questions posted on an item will be displayed under the listing. Check what other potential buyers have asked as they may have already asked the same question as you.

Another suggestion; check out similar items listed in the site, compare the prices and features. Basically, do your research! Also ensure your details are up to date, as incorrect contact details may mean that you can't complete the trade.

If a seller asks for your details or offers theirs, please report them to the site Sheriff by clicking on the 'Community Watch' link located in the listing. Look out for the little yellow Sheriff icon. Selling an item outside of the auction process is not permitted on the Trade Away website. If a seller is reported for doing this then their membership may be suspended or terminated.

Payment and delivery options are normally pre determined by the seller in the listing. However, if the buyer and seller agree to another method after the auction process is complete, this is something arranged between buyer and seller and agreed upon by both parties. We suggest clarifying the details thoroughly and always make contact with the seller before you pay and make sure you have their correct contact details.

Do NOT send cash in the mail or use money transfer services, such as Western Union or Money Gram, to send payments.

Finally, we encourage our members to 'Get talkin WA' in our Trade Away Comunity Message Board ask other members questions or for advice, or contact theteam@tradeaway.com.au
