Selling Tips...
We offer fantastic tools to get your item more exposure! We will update this information regularly and send members tips in our Trade Away Newsie, but to get you started here are some tips: Note: You cannot add extras and features after your item is loaded, so decide upfront how you want to make your items stand out and sell! We do however offer the opportunity to amend your description and price, but only before a bid has been made! You can do this by going to your 'My Account', 'My Listing' and 'Edit Listing'.
Headline:
This is the opening sales line for your item, so make it sizzle! Tell it how it is, with descriptive and informative Headlines so potential buyers can find your items easily. If possible use keywords in your Headline which are relevant to your items, e.g., “Funky Retro Outdoor coffee table Yellow” As New!. You can use up to 50 characters, and we suggest you use them. If you have set a low reserve, entice buyers and let them know by typing Low Res in your 'Headline', get creative with your descriptions, make them interesting too, and fun even! Think about the kind of Headline that would make you have a look!
Description:
Provide as much detail as possible about your items. The following outlines what we believe is required to give listings the edge: Including the brand & model if possible, age, condition and features, shape, size, small, medium, large, style, measurements, height, width, length, Designers, Author, Copyrights or Trademarks, other markings, age, ownership, any history, original parts or not, working parts or not, and for travel or event tickets any special conditions! Explain the items features; anything that makes it special, its ideal suitor, eg: 'Perfect for the Kitchen', or 'Great Outdoors...' etc. And finally state exactly what the item does? In effect, describe the merchandise as if there were no photo accompanying your well chosen words! And our final tip, is to describe the colour, many photos can distort this, but if you say orange, then there is no mistaking it for red! The more detail the better, but remember to keep it real.
Gallery Image:When you select a Gallery lmage, the first Photo from your auction listing accompanies your listing Headline, whenever it appears on the site, It's a smaller version and shows to the left of your Headline. These are a proven aid to selling online. Buyers want to see the time and straight away! Take a few shots of your item, and at different angles and choose the best one for your Gallery Image. Bold Headline:Your title will appear bold making it more ‘eye catching’ and easier for buyers to read. These are a simple to add tool, and try your auctions with and without and then see if the results are different! Trial and test is prescribed with these tips, over time you will get a good idea of the tools you need to sell your stuff!
Add Additional Photo’s:"A picture tells a thousand words" - Take great photos of your items to get the best possible exposure and increase your sale potential. You can list up to ten images per item - these must not include any pictures of people, and should be no more than 300KB in size and in a JPG. Our tip is; use the macro setting on your digital camera, it's perfect for taking close-up shots. Potential buyers want to get a good look at what they are interested in. Take pictures from every angle and select the best ones, highlight any defects by taking close up photos and take in good light or use the flash setting in your camera or phone.
Home Page Feature Listing:If you choose a Home Page Feature Listing, your auction will be displayed, (in date order, ‘closing soon’ first) on the home page of the site. Your item will automatically feature in the sub category pages and other pages of the site and if the item is searched for etc. This option gives maximum exposure to your item. As the home page lists items in the order they are closing in, at some point your item will be right at the top! This feature is also available for Fixed Price items. If you do not select this option your listing appears in the category pages it's listed in. Viewers will only see this item if they select either ‘view all’, or if they search in that specific category.
Sub Category Feature Listing:A Sub Category Feature Listing; will display your auction and will display on the site when a viewer selects a Sub Category. These options are easy to add when listing your items, if you wish to know more please read Extras and Features. If you do not select this option, your listing appears in the category pages it's listed in and viewers will only see this item, if they select either ‘view all’, or if they search in that specific category.
Answer Questions:If a buyer asks a question about your item, you will receive an email inviting you to answer. Click on the link in the email and if you’re signed in, it will take you straight to the answer box alternatively. You can also go to your 'My Account', 'My Listings', find the listing and click on 'Answer Question'. Your comments and their questions will be posted on the site with your listing. Be informative and factual when answering, and basically just be really helpful. Other members will be able to read all the Q & A’s. These also assist with the sale, so it's in your interest to answer these quickly, as the buyers eyes may start to wonder!
Price:
It's up to you, and if you’re not sure, see what others are asking for similar items. Your reserve price, (which can only be selected with auction items) is the price you decide you’re not willing to sell for less than. If you are not successful the first time, maybe lower your reserve? Another tip is to put your start price in your Headline, eg: "IKEA Kids Bedding start price $3.00 ! Plus Low Reserve."
Duration:
You decide the time and the date your auctions and sales close. Our auctions normally run for 10 days, however there are other choices, click here to find out about choosing your duration; you're the one in control! A good idea is to end your auctions in the evening or on weekends, when participation should be higher. This is when potential buyers can get to their computers at home and take their time searching and bidding. You may also to wish to have an item on the site for a possible quick turn around? See what works for you! As we are all in WA and in the same time zone, it makes this a breeze.
Delivery:If you're going to charge the buyer the delivery cost, make this part of the transaction really clear in the description box. We suggest that you include; estimated delivery costs in all listings, if this is your preferred method of delivery, as buyers will want to know up-front what it will cost them to have the items delivered. Payment:
When listing your items, select the payment methods that you will accept, (you can select more than one). Once the auction has been won, make payment arrangements with the buyer directly, see what suits you both? Most buyers will be able to make payments through; online direct bank deposit, cash and Paypal. These are the easiest methods. It’s up to the two of you.
A final tip: It's what happens after the auction, that buyers remember the most, the little details, the thank you for your custom email, good communication and delivery on time etc. We suggest looking after your future customers, because they will probably buy off you again and again, if they were satisfied!
Trade Away does not participate with the payment of items on any level.
